In modern society, we often move between reality and illusion, simultaneously participants and observers, as if engaged in an endless game. **“Wandering Realms”** is a two-person exhibition featuring artists Shao Shih-Ming and Franco Fasoli, who, through their distinct perspectives, present this experience of drifting perception. The exhibition weaves together reality and metaphor, memory and bestiality, allowing viewers to witness how the artists navigate the world with their minds, reflecting the individual’s struggle and flow within their environment.
Franco Fasoli’s practice originates from the streets, beginning with graffiti in his adolescence in Buenos Aires, and later expanding to murals, paintings, sculptures, and collages. He often employs hybrids of humans and animals to metaphorically explore human instinct and collective behavior. Whether depicting anthropomorphized beasts engaged in brutal wrestling or symbols of fervent sports fans, his works convey the tension of power, competition, and identity with strong visual impact. Fasoli’s creations are both primal and theatrical, resembling an unending performance that blurs the boundary between human and animal, reality and symbolism, inviting viewers to explore their own instincts and desires. For this exhibition, a selection of still-life works without living subjects or dynamic action has been presented, aiming to detach from specific life forms and leave room for imagination and thought-provoking visual impressions through space and objects.
In contrast to Fasoli’s dynamic and confrontational approach, Shao Shih-Ming captures subtle moments of everyday life through dark and restrained visual language. His works hover between memory and reality, depicting decaying man-made structures, wilderness, and scenes where light and shadow intersect, reflecting human alienation and moments of quiet observation. Passersby without specific destinations, though ordinary in real life, become projections of inner emotions in his works, taking on a dramatic, narrative-like monologue. Spaces with intersecting light and shadow resemble small theatrical stages within the city, prompting viewers to drift between reality and illusion, searching for connections between the individual and the environment.
**“Wandering Realms”** is a dialogue about movement and observation. The two artists present human playfulness in the world in completely different ways—sometimes bold and frenzied, sometimes calm and introspective. Through their work, they navigate between reality and symbolism, inviting viewers into a visual and mental journey to experience how art allows us to walk, get lost, and find our place in the world.
