Kizuki

Born in 1997 in Ibaraki, she primarily works in Nihonga (Japanese painting), exploring “things that clearly exist yet seem not to exist.” She focuses on fleeting moments that flash between memory and reality—a scene that feels familiar yet unseen, a sensation that never truly existed yet evokes nostalgia. These blurred instants, for her, resemble “other people’s memories” and represent a temporary loosening of the self’s contours. Using the translucent layers of washi paper and the delicate texture of mineral pigments, she depicts the “gaps of existence” where multiple times and viewpoints intersect, probing the meaning of consciousness and connection.

In this exhibition, she centers on the theme of “angels.” To her, angels symbolize patience—the endurance of a fragile body paired with a strong spirit. Flowers in her paintings are drawn from everyday life, such as the lilies hand-cut by her grandmother during summer, whose touch remains vivid in memory. Though seemingly soft, these subjects carry the inner resilience and warmth of humanity, reflecting her contemplation and gaze on the intertwined states of memory, sensation, and existence.
