FANKO

FANKO Born in 1989. Lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan.

Graduated from the Department of Visual Communication Design.

FANKO is a full-time artist who continuously engages in dialogue with society and everyday life through self-created characters. Working primarily with acrylic paint, oil pastels, and pencil, she often combines painting with photography and graffiti to blur the boundary between reality and fiction. Through painting and photography, FANKO transforms lived experiences into playful and evocative visual narratives.

Without any formal academic training in fine art, her visual language is deeply shaped by the comics and picture books she encountered in childhood. Driven purely by a love for drawing and the joy it brings, she pours emotions and fragments of daily life onto paper, developing a distinctive and endearing style of her own. She is particularly influenced by manga artists of the 1980s and 1990s, such as Osamu Tezuka, Fujiko F. Fujio, and Momoko Sakura, whose works continue to inspire her creative imagination.

FANKO documents everyday life through her recurring character “Gozzzai” (狗仔). Her compositions are rich in narrative details and symbolic elements, expressing the character’s connection to nature and the cosmos. The imaginative scenes invite empathy and curiosity from viewers. Her painterly approach features blended layers of color, allowing pigments to gradually surface and form a distinctive sense of depth. Paired with vivid themes, this layered technique strengthens the emotional and visual resonance of her work.

Rather than representing a specific individual, “Gazzzai” functions as an intuitive projection of the artist’s inner state and spontaneous emotions. It is precisely this unforced and sincere creative attitude that enables FANKO’s work to build an immediate and honest bridge between the artwork and the viewer, awakening deep-seated emotional connections.
