Mona Sugata was born in 1983 in Tokyo, Japan, and in 2009 completed the Master’s Program in Printmaking (Printmaking Course) at the Faculty of Art and Design, Tama Art University. Her practice is rooted in a keen sensitivity to the essence of life; by combining flowers and leaves as a symbolic vocabulary, she reflects the continuity of a life flow among humans, plants, insects, and all living beings. Rather than using explicit language to delineate those relationships, she constructs a field in which viewers can linger amid unnamed presences and feel the depth of life. When someone, within that silence, begins to become aware of their own existence, the work becomes the medium through which she experiences the genuine joy of being connected to the world.
